Special Lady 2010 Calendar
Charter
Captain Mike Andolina
Striper fishing usually begins early in May with the arrival of school fish. Our first charters start on or about May 15th. Larger bass and the first blue fish show up along South Cape beaches by Memorial Day and our charter season is in full swing.
During the month of June inshore waters warm and the stripers and blues move to their summer feeding grounds in the rips between Monomoy and Nantucket Islands. Baits change from small clousers and herring flies to squid, scup, and larger bait fish imitations. Rod weights move up to nines and tens and lines are either Orvis Depth Charge 400 grain or density compensated lines in ten or eleven weight.
Fishing for bass and blues generally remains hot through
July and we begin to see school blue fin tuna. During August the fish like cool water and feed early and late in the day. We do have our special spots and are generally able to put you in the zone.
We anticipate the arrival of bonito and false albacore early
in September. Fishing for these miniature tunas can be spectacular; the fish of a lifetime on light tackle. During late September and early October, we often find ‘blitzing’ bass and blues as they begin their fall migration to winter grounds.
